I've been trying for some hours to get the miniDSP/miniDIGI/miniAMP stack to work as a simple stereo system, meaning the miniAMP in 2 channel mode to drive a pair of fullrange speakers. No crossovers necessary, I just want to play with the equalisation. I configured miniAMP in 2ch mode (all 4 output jumpers closed, config2 closed - config1 open), and wired the speakers according to the manual. I can't however figure out how to route the signals. If I grab I2S DATA out 1&2 (as the miniAMP manual says for 2ch mode) I get one channel (left) on both speakers, if I grab I2S 3&4 I get the other (right) on both speakers again. To make it clear, I just need outputs 1 and 3 (or 2 and 4) of the plugin to be amplified, not all four, but what I get is either output 1 and 2 (the left channel), or output 3 and 4 (right channel) Maybe it's just late, but I can't figure this out. I am using the 2way Advanced Plugin. Please help!

PS I understand I can do this by keeping the miniAMP in 4 channel mode and connecting my speakers to just two of the four outputs (1-3, or 2-4), but that means just 10Watt per channel, instead of 20Watt in BTL mode.]]>

I bought this Radio

Can i connect this directly via i2s to my MiniDPS/MiniDIGI combo? And make a switch for change from i2s input to SPDIF input?]]>

I am a bit confused by other posts. Is it possible to create a pure I2S chain (without any SPDIF conversion) with the following hardware?

USBStreamer - MiniSHARC - 3 MiniAMP's

Preferably I would like to control the volume on the three MiniAMPS simultaneously with one volume knob, so this is kind of question number two

Subject: nanoDIGI volume control bug - by: deChrLam http://www.minidsp.com/forum/9-hardware-support/9145-nanodigi-volume-control-bug#9145 http://www.minidsp.com/forum/9-hardware-support/9145-nanodigi-volume-control-bug#9145
There appears to be a potentially dangerous bug:

Put on some music and set to the volume to a low level.
Now press and hold VOL+ on the remote control until the sound starts becoming loud.
Now immediately press and hold VOL- on the remote control.
Notice that as you hold VOL- the volume is continuing to increase

Imagine if your partner is operating the volume and turns is up, then the realises the volume is way too high, then immediately tries to turn it down again and it keeps going up until -0dB and then your speakers melt. That would seriously suck.

I don't know which remote control protocol my remote is using. I reckon it is NEC because the Sony bug is not present and it is probably not Philips RC-6 either because it is from a far east manufacturer. I will try to find out which it is.

Can anyone confirm this as a bug? I cannot test with another remote as all my remotes are RC-5 or Panasonic protocols.

As a final point, switching configs causes a moderately quiet popping sound.]]>

The dsp is for my carpc, and now i need to extend the connection cable from 2x8 board to vol-fp board.
How thick cable do i need? I have telephone cable with 4-wires and i think this is about 22awg.

Is that ok, or do i need thicker cable? I need to extend it about 4-5 meter.

And question number 2.
I have tryed everything in my home, and everything works find, but one thing i dont like is that the pot for volume dont have stop. And i also need to turn it 10-20 turns to let the volume be to max or minimum.
So i need to change the pot, but how big is the orignal and how big do i need to set? 10K, 100K?

Thanks!]]>

Subject: Minidigi/Minidsp hookup/routing confusion, please! - by: Bevan http://www.minidsp.com/forum/9-hardware-support/9117-minidigiminidsp-hookuprouting-confusion-please#9117 http://www.minidsp.com/forum/9-hardware-support/9117-minidigiminidsp-hookuprouting-confusion-please#9117
I've been using the Minidigi/Minidsp stack without problems for many months, feeding it toslink and taking a pair of analogue RCA outs from the minidsp to integrated amp, and the other pair of analogue RCA outs to a pair of subwoofers.

I've just upgraded my integrated amp to one of these new 'power dac' amplifiers, so now need to take the L+R bookshelf channels from the minidigi's digital output (spdif) as these amps only take digital (spdif or toslink)

I've always had the minidsp jumpers on the first (I2S_Data_IN_ch7&8) and 7th (I2S_Data_OUT_ch3&4) positions, and reading the manual it seems this is how it should be for my new intended use as well. But when I hooked up the amp via the minidigis spdif out I was surprised to hear the right channel >80hz in the one speaker, and the right channel <80hz in the other speaker. Reading the manual now I realise that I could have predicted that, ch3&4 being R lowpass and R high pass. I guess what I need is something like I2S_Data_OUT_ch2&4 on the minidigis spdif out, but I dont see this offered as an option anywhere.

Can I do what I'm hoping, or do I need to buy a nanodigi?

Thanks very much for any help

My question is whether I can supply the 0-3.3VDC signal to the board a different way instead of using the potentiometer to generate this control voltage. I will use an external signal to control a circuit that can generate the same 0-3.3VDC signal. I will connect the circuit's output to the pin on the board which would normally be connected to the wiper of the potentiometer.

The circuit would get power from the same source as the 2x4 board, or off of the board itself, and will be connected to the same ground.

Will there by any problems if I use the additional circuit instead of the potentiometer?

Thanks,

-Charlie]]>

I recently got 2 2x4 balanced kits and I want to build a 3-way speaker with the these kits as active crossover(1 for each side).
Heres the problem: when I connect this small amp module
(www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=320-600)
to the 2x4 outputs then I get a loud squeak-noise or sometimes pop-noises with extreme cone excursion:S from my hifi speakers(the ones I want to replace). It's regardless whether the 2x4 is powered or even connected to anything other than the amp when this occurs.

This only happens with the 2x4 module and the T-amp-module, I've tried it with my mp3-player as source for the T-amp and it works. I've also tried connecting the 2x4 to my hifi-amp which has a 3 sec delay on startup and it works fine aswell.

Any advice/idea what causes this or should I just build a soft-start for the amp module?]]>

No sound at the input. Checked everything. Turned on and off, checked settings, cables etc several times with no result. Then when I was just about to give up it started working for no apparent reason. Balance between channels was out and numerical read out on gain sliders was erratic and didnt match visual indicators. There was noise through system when moving the sliders.
Left it off overnight and the next day it worked just fine.
Today after working fine for a while I turned music off but left system on. After a while there was whistling and popping sounds from the speakers. Turned everything off.
Have tried several times since but now no sound at the inputs again.
Have powered the miniDSP direct and via computer ( Macbook Pro )and checked settings, cables etc many times.
Any suggestions about what is happening here are welcome.
Thanks Mike]]>

I'm using an old Sony remote and used the learning function to program the up/down buttons. However, a button touch yields a 2.5db step and not a 1.0db step as advertised.

My remote could be bad. Can someone else confirm/test their setup to see if they can increase/decrease volume in 1.0db steps?

Cheers,
