How accurate are the input and output meters on the PC s/w?
I am measuring an output of -15dB from a VST system on my PC that I know is accurate. However, it shows up on miniDIGI/DSP as around -45dB. It *may* be the PC sound chipset doing something bad, which is why I'm asking |

What levels are we talking about here? dB doesn't say much..
dBFS, dBu? Analog or Digital? Meters are acurate and show dBFS (full scale). They are tested agains the audio precision to see saturated signal at max levels. Make sure that you don't have Windows leveling on the way... DevTeam |

The main problem seems to be using the miniDSP/DIGI in sub output mono mode to drive a subwoofer.
It is set for digital input, and mono. All crossovers and parametrics in each channel are set the same. I am assuming that analog outputs 1,2,3,4 should all carry a signal that is the sum of the stereo inputs. However, they do not. Signal input Left - Output 1 Hi, 3 Hi Signal input Right - Output 1 Hi, 3 Lo Signal input Left - Output 2 Hi, 4 Lo Signal input Right - Output 2 Hi, 4 Hi What am I doing wrong? |

Hello Devteam,
There where some related complaints one year ago, we are still waiting for a bug fix. I can easily see this with an input signal reduction of a known value not displaying correctly. Re:Plug-in dBFS meter display behaviour 1 year, 3 months ago #1990 Dear All, after a bit of investigation, it indeed seems like there is something not normal on the meter refresh. Thanks for letting us know. Seems like a bug that we'll solve in the upcoming version. Update to follow when we release a new plug-in, Devteam |

@ Dirk,
I'm not 100% sure to understand your question/problem from this post (i.e started with dBFS and now moved to mono configuration. I'm guessing from your wording that you're using a 2.1 sub plug-in but please confirm else it's not easy to understand/guess a system. First off, I'm not sure if it's a typo but FYI,analog outputs 1,2,3,4 will NOT carry a signal that is the sum of the stereo inputs. See the DSP diagram in the datasheet. Apart from the mixer plug-in, we don't have a plug-in doing such. Only the sub outputs are mixed. Not the Satellites. With regards to metering, bear in mind that a crossover will remove some signal to the spectrum (i.e that's of course expected). Input -10dBFS at input, crossover at say 300Hz, you'll never read -10dBFs on the output meter since you removed more than 75% of the energy spectrum. Do u understand? @ Eric, The problem with the metering (a fixed constant) isn't related to the question we're seeing here. i.e a -15dBFS will never show up as a -45dFS on the meter.. It's a problem of averaging. Devteam |
